Please stay safe and we will all get together soon.The City of Carmel-by-the-Sea recognizes the importance of outdoor activities and exercise during this challenging time of COVID-19. Just because the State and County stay-at-home orders have been modified, it does not mean things are going back to normal. It is important that we all continue to stay close to home, practice physical distancing, and avoid congregating with others outside our immediate household. All of these measures will help lessen the spread of the COVID-19 virus.The Monterey County Shelter-in-Place Order issued March 18, 2020, amended April 3, 2020, and May 1, 2020, allows individuals to leave their residence for “Essential Activities.” The Order defines outdoor activities such as walking, hiking, or running provided individuals comply with the social distancing requirements as an “Essential Activity.” “Social Distancing Requirements” include maintaining at least six-foot social distancing from other individuals, washing hands with soap and water for at least twenty seconds as frequently as possible, or using hand sanitizer, covering coughs or sneezes, regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces, and not shaking hands.If we all follow the following guidelines, the beach will remain open and we can continue to lessen the spread of the COVID-19 virus:The City recognizes that outdoor activities are beneficial to relieve stress during these stressful times and encourages our residents to get outside and enjoy our local parks and the beach for walking, jogging, running, ocean recreational use, and wheelchair use. Under phase one of the state plan that begins on May 8 at 5:00 p.m., most businesses can open… The list is dynamic and is updated with new information as soon as it becomes available.A full closure means there is no public access at these public outdoor spaces on a temporary basis to protect public health from the COVID-19 pandemic. All restrooms are closed, and there are no parking facilities open for visitors, recreational boats or off-highway vehicles. Beach parking and restrooms are generally open at all Orange County beaches.All parks in the county except for Redwood National Park are open for day use.Many beaches and parking lots along the California coast are temporarily closed to help contain crowds and the spread of COVID-19.Beaches, parks and parking lots are generally open.
