It’s how we say #roadtrip. So as well as testing out the camera, I had in mind I would record my trip and tell the story of my long weekend in a photo essay. Bear in mind too that this was 18 months ago, and I think I was on a bit of a wank at this point about deep observation and only shooting what you know.
Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit of a black sheep. If you were to go researching old versions of Kodak Ultramax 400 packaging, like I did before writing this, you’d find the film hasn’t always gone by its current name. One thing to note is skin tones may come out a little too yellow if you overexpose.

Kind of similar to the old prints that were 4/3 instead of 3/2.
Wrong.Safety shot because the sun came out and I thought at f 4.5 1/45 maybe I’d be underexposed in the previous shot. Thanks – what’s really odd as an Aussie is coming across eucalypts while travelling.
It’s about 450km from where I live. For some reason my replies were not showing up, and maybe it’s because I put a link in? I thought it would rain later so I got a safety shot.On the other hand, it’s a roll that did what it set out to do. I bought a Minolta Hi-Matic GF (fixed 1/100 shutter, 38mm guess focus, 3 stops f/4-8-16) not too long ago, and I didn’t really have high hopes for it. The sharpness is also nothing to complain about, bearing in mind what we’re shooting with here.Aside from the price, I do have a couple of ideas why this is so. Shot from the window.
KODAK ULTRA MAX 400 Film Revised 2/16 KODAK ULTRA MAX 400 Film KODAK Publication No. Still would love to see a shot if you can find a way to send it or post it.
They really capture a sense of the changing landscape very successfully. This is the Pound again, except this time you can see it.What I continue to learn is the importance of having a specific intent when going out shooting. Kodak Ultramax is a 5500k daylight balanced, ISO 400, colour negative 35mm film that’s available in rolls of 24 or 36 exposures. And it’s easy to be wise after and say “Oh.
I guess I figured if I’d walked up at sunrise I should make a frame. I also think, based on my experience shooting all three, it’s a little unfair. With that higher ISO, Ultramax is a more all-purpose film than Gold 200 and can be shot in lower light or to achieve higher shutter speeds in the same light.
Until it became Ultramax, it genuinely was Gold 200’s bigger brother. But I got the roll back and the photos are just neat. I’ve shot it many times but never with low cloud before. At sunset that evening the light was stunning. And South Australia is FLAT.
I didn’t need to shoot that” when you have the roll back and see what else you’ve got. There’s a bunch of people who like riding their bikes on these trails in the Flinders, and this is for them.No worries Tim. This makes me want to get in on the cheap point and shoot craze.Hi Tim .
35mm DX 400 135-36 (108 Pics) (Pack of 3), Basic Fujifilm Fujicolor 200 Speed 24 Exposure 35mm Film - 4 Pack (Discontinued by Manufacturer) Kodak Ultramax 400 Color Negative Film (ISO 400) 35mm 24-Exposures - 2 Pack This roll records the time I went away for a long weekend and shot one roll as a record of my trip.Next day I sat in the van drinking red wine and reading my novel. I can go through a roll pretty quickly by just clicking away and not thinking too much.I’d just ridden my bike up this hill. Like in the olden days.
that shows one of the square shots. It’s the whole point of the camera! I’ve been shooting for ages but I’m only just starting to understand this. The sky looked interesting though – anything that looks like it might rain is a novelty.I do like these photos. The film: Kodak GC 400 (Ultramax) 24 Exposures (Cheap as).
Is it tied purely to purpose, or can we hope for something that lies beyond the specific and is universal? For more articles on 35mmc about the subject matter discussed here, please click one of the following tag links:Yeah – for this type of shot they are great.
