With the incredible vocal range of this Gospel turned Metal singer, and his access to the worlds best Progressive Metal players, I was hoping for more. He has also worked with supergroups Star One, Allen-Lande, Level 10, and as one of fourteen vocalists in the progressive symphonic metal band Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Russell Allen is the singer and frontman of the American progressive metal band Symphony … Russell Allen (born July 19, 1971) is an American singer and lyricist best known as the vocalist of American progressive metal band Symphony X. Yes he is singing both the verse and chorus - and yes, he absolutely does control it. Since 2011, he has also served as the frontman of the heavy metal band Adrenaline Mob. I have never heard someone who can control rasp before.
There are a couple of excellent tracks, and there are a few questionably boring ones.
For example, on Eve of Seduction, is Allen singing both the verses AND the chorus? On the albums all vocals, even the backing vocals, are done by Allen, Romeo only sings live (even the intro to the Divine Wings of Tragedy is just multiple Russell Allen's, no other band members). Russell Allen is unquestionably one of the most powerful singers in metal today. Adrenaline Mob: "Barracuda" (Heart) : Russell Allen - YouTube Yes he is singing both the verse and chorus - and yes, he absolutely does control it. I know there's that part of Of Sins and Shadows but that sounds like lip synching to a backing track to me.Since I'm kind of new to Symphony X, is the smoother voice Allen's or is it Romeo singing? He is absolutely my favorite singer. Thanks for clearing that up, I hope I see them live someday.Does Romeo actually sing? The vocals on V for example are much more mellow and melodic - and if you see them live, the one song they play off V, he will sing it in the old style.Best live singer around today IMO.The whole band is just mega talentedIt's so cool. The dude's level of vocal control, expression, intensity, and technique are absolutely top tier in the modern metal/rock world and he seems to only be getting better after over 20 years in the business. On the albums all vocals, even the backing vocals, are done by Allen, Romeo only sings live (even the intro to the Divine Wings of Tragedy is just multiple Russell Allen's, no other band members). In fact, the most obvious thing is how much more aggressive all the newer albums are for vocals. It sounds like different people singing.
