Had to remove skins to finish cooking. The chicken wasn't worth seconds. Yes, it's some prep work but that's what I enjoy about cooking. Ate the leftovers the next day for lunch. I don't understand the comments about it being a lot of work (it's really not) or tasting "jarred" - not really sure what that means. In the cast iron dish I used for the whole process the presentation was wonderful and a got a number of wows. It sounds delicious. I roasted fresh red peppers instead of using the jarred peppers. This spicy, tangy, piri piri sauce should be in constant rotation in the condiment shelf of your fridge. I haven’t tried Portuguese before.If you have extras of this dish, place them in airtight containers. I think I cooked it about a half hour longer than it called for, and that really made a difference in how tender it was.Fabulous flavors when using all dark meat...legs and thighs. Didthicken with flour paste as suggested,and served over egg noodles.I agree with the reviewer who thought the dish tasted like it "came from a can." I plan to try it again with fresh red peppers and fresh tomatoes and possibly home-made paste. Season the chicken with salt and make the Piri Piri Sauce. We tried it and the sauce burned on the chicken — even after a minute on a low heat setting. It is better with fresh roasted red peppers - skip the jarred version. Although, I'vemadesimilar chicken dishes that call for halfas many ingredients, but with equallytasty (or tastier) results, so not sureif I'd make this exact recipe again. Really nice comfort food!I also followed recipe to a tee - thought it was fabulous. I started with brining the chicken while getting everything else ready. Place your chicken pieces or whole in a large zip lock bag and add your grinded spices, pour 1/4 cup of water and shake to coat all the chicken. In the end, the sauce didn't need any additional thickening and was the perfect consistency. Stir fry for another 5 minutes. I guess the moral of the story is results may vary per oven, and to keep a close eye on it.This time, I wanted to try and recreate it for myself.Loved it. Like some earlier comments stated, I think the suggested oven heat/time was too much…after 30 mins the skin was getting pretty charry so I dropped heat to 450, covered in foil and cooked for another 15 mins, and turned out well. Can’t wait to try it!Mashed potatoes are also another yummy option. Will not being doing this one again.I used a crock pot and thought it turned out fabulous...the flavors melded very well.
