On the last play of extra time, Justin Norton forced a Gator fumble which was recovered by Griffin Galletta to end the game.In a dogfight of a game where both teams left everything on the field, the Crushers won in overtime behind the gutsy performances of George Minchin, Chris Takita, Sebastian Parra, John McHugh and Dylan Brehm. The second half of the game showcased solid play from many Bulldogs including a strong open field tackle by cornerback Calvin Donat that saved a Raiders first down. Matthew O’Donnell spent some time under center and managed several effective read options to keep the Bulldog drives moving. Also playing well on defense was Chris Marinaccio who broke up many General passes.
Takita and Parra kept the Raiders on their backs all day, with 15 combined tackles, 8 of those for loss and six QB pressures to force incomplete passes. The offensive line led by Alex Mrdelja, Phil Martone, Nash Edwards and Will Connell did an amazing job sustaining their blocks and allowed back Noah Park to score an electrifying 50-yard tiptoe down the sidelines to seal the deal for the Mavs. Other contributors on defense were Lucas Marks, Harrison Castelli and Travis Wilson. A positive note for the Mavericks is that most of the team played in back to back championship games. Henry Johnson and Tim Elder played well upfront on the O-line. The Mavericks second touchdown was a 50-yard scamper by John Tsaparas. And Jackson Choi who had key tackle for a loss.The Glenville Mavericks were able to score on their opening drive when Rocco Grillo connected with Gavyn Gennarelli on a 35-yard touchdown pass. Flinn had 58-yards, a touchdown, plus excellent runs after pass. Some even made it there last 3 years. The defense was relentless the entire day led by Justin Norton, Ignacy Pietryka, Kyle Allen, Griffin Galletta, and John Insinga, holding the Crushers scoreless. Hausmann led the ground attack with 110-yards, while Chase Smith and Guy Germain helped pace the offense with a number of solid runs.The Gators offensive line and backs did a terrific job led by Dillon Stephens, George and Peter Vomvolakis, Owen Hoffmann, Daniel McGuire, Maximus Gabelli, Max Colella, Topher Martinelli, Michael Nogaki, Dylan Botoff, Rinello and Smith. In the second quarter Auguste was able to take the handoff from Nick Wells and with key blocks by EJ Perez, Tony Ciccarelli and Gavyn Gennarelli, Auguste scored for the second time in the game. The defensive line controlled the powerful running attack of the Generals and forced them to put the ball in the air where the linebackers and defensive backs recorded 2 interceptions on the day. Defensively the Mavericks shut out the Generals with 3 interceptions by Brandon Auguste and a fumble recovery by Michael Asprinio. Gennarelli intercepted a Bulldog pass late in the game to seal the Maverick win. The Gators scored on their opening drive when Maximus Gabelli ran it in from 4 yards out, the score was setup by long runs by Hudson Hausmann and Chase Smith. The Offensive line did well against a very strong Crusher defense. The defense was led by George Vomvolakis and Stephens who recorded countless tackles throughout the game, a number of which were in the backfield.
The Crushers sealed the game when Minchin and Breheney knocked down a pass on fourth down to end a very exciting game.The Gators played their hearts out led by lights out defensive play holding the Bulldogs at bay for four quarters.. Their efforts were driven by the play of Dillon Stephens, Peter and George Vomvolakis, Murphy Watner, Reed Eddy, Barrett Pennington, Lucas Marks, Hudson Hausmann, Max Warden, Matthew Colella, Austin Rinello, Chase Smith, Harrison Castelli and Travis Wilson who were making plays all over the field. Defensively the Generals has strong play from Lavin, Ehrhart and Matthew Huang.After a scoreless first quarter the Glenville Mavericks got on the board with a 30-yard run by Brandon Auguste. Nicholas Nostro continued to lead the undefeated Crushers with 101-yards rushing on just three carries, scoring the other two touchdowns. Quarterbacks Rocco Grillo, Nick Wells and Coley Critchell kept the offense clicking all day.
