The suitability for deep-water quay facilities was one of the reasons why Teesside was chosen as the terminal site for Ekofisk production. ConocoPhillips Acquires Additional 10.99 Percent Interest in Teesside Terminal Stavanger – ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) today announced that the existing shareholders have signed an agreement to acquire their pro-rata share of Equinor’s 27.3 percent interest in the Teesside Terminal. ConocoPhillips will retain its London-based commercial trading business and its 40.25 percent interest in and operatorship of the Teesside oil terminal. The terminal also receives production from J-Block and other third party volumes from other areas of the North Sea.ConocoPhillips operates the Teesside terminal. Today the Teesside Refinery is a crude oil reception, storage and trans-shipment installation.
In the UK ConocoPhillips has an office at Angel Court in London and is operator of the Teesside Terminal at Seal Sands in Middlesbrough.
Oil was first received in 1975, and the main processing plant was completed in 1979. Phil Kirk, Chief Executive of Chrysaor said: “This significant acquisition reflects our continuing belief that the UK North Sea has material future potential for oil and gas production.It will retain its London-based commercial trading business and its 40.25% interest in the Teesside oil terminal.The deal is expected to be completed in late 2019.The acquisition is said to make Chrysaor the largest net oil and gas producer in the UKThe assets being acquired – which is said to make Chrysaor the largest net oil and gas producer in the UK – produced around 72,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) in 2018.

The terminal also fractionates natural gas liquids into ethane, propane and butane, Operations comprise both processing and tanker-loading facilities covering a 285-acre site at Seal Sands, at the mouth of the River Tees, Middlesbrough. Today the terminal receives around 300.000 barrels of oil and NGL daily from Norwegian and British fields in the North Sea. The Teesside Operations terminal employs around 200 ConocoPhillips staff and 180 long-term contractors.
