This is quite charming now, and while it avoids much of hard tannins found in many of the wines from the Medoc, the wine is only now starting to become civilized.
Flowers, boysenberry, truffle and earthy scents are found in the perfume. Medium/full bodied, with a sublime, elegant and refined character. There's no denying that the yields have had an impact - even in the colour you see a rich, velvety density with the violet edging that suggests a good pH (it's 3.83, so a touch higher than usual). On the palate, the wine shows silky, soft, textures, an elegant, fresh character and sweet cherries in the upbeat finish. The wine faded after 20 minutes, but for the initial greeting, it had charm.2004 Palmer Historic XIX Century Blend - With deep color, jammy black fruit, pepper and lush textures, this is an outstanding wine. The wine was much better on the nose than on the palate.Rustic in style for this normally elegant wine. A blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot brought up in 65% new French oak, its deep ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by a rich, opulent bouquet of blackcurrants, black cherries, chocolate, and tobacco, with hints of graphite and background oak. Due to its velvet nature, you can enjoy this now, but patient consumers that are willing to wait another 5 year or so, will be amply rewarded.Prior to 2012, there was a small parcel of vines located inside the Chateau Palmer vineyards that belonged to another estate, Chateau Vincent. Margaux der Bessere, weil eben so viel Frische aus dieser brutal reifen Frucht kommt, aber Palmer ist auch ein ganz großer Wein, das muss ich gestehen. In the winery, all of this led to an unprecedented decision: every lot would be selected for the blending of Château Palmer… However, the wine is not heavy, it is light on its feet.
